Super EE and Super Kigali in: for the Kigali Amendment’s strength! – Part 5

Tempo para leitura: 2 minutos

Another Super EE adventure comes to an end and this one will be doubly missed, as she had the help of Super Kigali to fight against the villains of energy waste .

We also had another special guest in this last part: the Kigali Amendment! It was introduced to put an end to the emission of gases with high global warming potential, which were produced by air conditioning units.

The Kigali Amendment included hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), greenhouse gases, in the list of substances of the Montreal Protocol.

The Kigali Amendment has been law in Brazil since August 2023. The country needs to control and reduce the use of these substances, which are present in equipment such as air conditioners, following the Amendment’s HFC reduction schedule.

New refrigerants with lower global warming potential, such as R32 and HFOs, are options to replace HFCs with high global warming potential. It is already possible to find air conditioning units with R32 for sale in Brazil.

In addition, Super EE also highlighted that combining energy efficiency with the Kigali Amendment can double the benefits in reducing greenhouse gases. These are two superheroes united for the good of the planet!

Check out the end of our story:

The Montreal Protocol is an international agreement that was created in 1987 with the aim of reducing and eliminating substances that cause the destruction of the ozone layer . Among these substances are chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are mentioned in the comics as the gas that the grandmother with the window air conditioner used to cool.

This comic book series has a script by the IEI Brasil team – Gabrielle Adabo, Rodolfo Gomes and Cristiane Bergamini -, drawings by Natalia de Souza Flores and has the support of Clasp.
